Major Players

William S. Oury was the organizer of the attack on the Apache people. He was even a hot-tempered Virginian who fought in the Texas war for independence.
Sidney R. DeLong was a very close associate to William. Sidney was known for a nasty temper.
Jesus Ellias was the leader of the massacre. He and his brother were known as skillful trackers. They were more than willing to kill because their cattle were stolen and two of their brothers were killed.
Lt. Royal Whitman later known as "the most hated man in Arizona" was officer in charge of the Camp Grant post. He had to take responsibility of feeding and taking care of the now peace-making Indians.
Brevet Major General George Stoneman had full responsibility on military policies in the Arizona Territory.
Chief Eskiminzin was the chief of the Apache Indians. His name means "Men stand in line for him." He sent five Apache elderly women for peace and protection. Later the Apache people were employed to farming, gathering hay and working in nearby ranches. Eskiminzin was captured and was shipped to prison for incorrigible Native Americans in Flordia.  He was considered a prisoner of war so he could not get any sort of trial.
Fransico was the Chief of the San Xavier Papago Indians. He HATED the Apache people, and he was willing to get vengeance and retribution.
Hiram Stevens was responsible of posting a guard on the road to Camp Grant to prevent early warnings about the attack.
Samuel Hughes was the Territorial Adjutant General. He was the one that provided the guns and ammunition.
